The Flagstaff City-Coconino County Public Library (“Library”) welcomes children to use its’ facilities and services. The responsibility for the care, safety and behavior of children rests with the parent/guardian or responsible caregiver who is at least age 14. Library staff cannot assume responsibility for unattended children.

Definitions

Unattended Child: a child under 10 years of age using the Library unaccompanied by a parent/guardian or caregiver or left alone in one part of the Library while the parent/guardian or caregiver is in another.

Vulnerable Child: a child under age 18 whose safety or well-being could be endangered either in the Library, or if they were to leave the building. Library staff must use their judgment and discretion in determining whether a child is vulnerable.

Regulations

Children are required to comply with the Library’s Behavioral Policy.

Children under 10 years old must always have supervision while in the Library by someone age 14 or older and must be picked up before the library closes.

If an unattended child is vulnerable – during Library hours or after Library closing hours – and parent/guardian or caregiver cannot be contacted to provide care or transportation, Library staff will call the Flagstaff Police Department.
