Technical Services

The purpose of the Technical Services department is threefold: acquire, catalog and process all the materials that come into the Library to prepare them for use by the public. To acquire materials, we participate in the selection of what is bought, we order the items, receive them, and keep account of the budget amounts spent. When the items arrive, the catalogers assign the call numbers and the headings that allow patrons to search for materials by authors' names and by subject in the online iBistro catalog. Once cataloged, books, videos, DVDs, etc. get the stamps and labels that identify them as belonging to the Library, as well as the jackets, tape or other coverings that protect them. In addition, this department is responsible for maintaining the physical condition of the materials by cleaning, mending, rejacketing, etc. in order to give them as long a usable life as possible.
